We are all products of our time and the history that accompanies it.  Our world includes people of all shapes, sizes, colors, and backgrounds. When you were young, you heard others express opinions about demographic affiliations and internalized those messages.  Demographic affiliations are important because each one forms a piece of our identity.  In this lesson, you will reflect on those messages you heard growing up and gauge the impact they had on you, measuring how our past can impact our identity.

  • Prioritizing My Dimensions Preview

Our identities are a lot more complicated than you might think.  In fact, an identity is made up of many different dimensions that work together to make us who we are.  The importance you place on each dimension strongly influences how you will respond to a given conflict or situation.  Recognizing how different dimensions affect you will help you understand some of your own conflicts.  When you know why you are reacting the way you are, it’s easier to work toward the right resolution.  In this lesson, you will rank your 10 Dimensions of Identity to determine their importance to you and gain insight into your reactions and responses to others who might have different perspectives and rankings.

  • Mapping My Dimensions Preview

Now that you have learned about the 10 Dimensions of Identity, you are ready to dig deeper by completing the self-assessments that rank the factors making up each dimension.  Each dimension is the sum total of different parts and you may have many different core values or a variety of social roles.  The self assessments will help you identify your own specific core values and the specific social roles you take on and how important each of these is to your sense of identity.  The Self-Assessments and Coaching slide show will provide you with an overview on how to complete the self-assessments, review the results, and benefit from the coaching.
